Everything you need to know about the 5K in May challenge
With summer nearing and the weather improving, there’s never been a better time to get out and about more, and with the 5K in May challenge, you’ve got a good reason to get up and get moving.
But what is 5K in May and how can you get involved?
Here is everything you need to know.
What is 5K in May?
Run for Heroes first introduced the concept of 5K in May – the task is to complete 5 kilometers of physical activity and then donate money to a charity of your choice.
Whether you’re a marathon runner or just a beginner, the challenge empowers you to get active and celebrate exercise.
Whether it’s walking, running, cycling, swimming, or galloping, people taking part in the challenge have to complete a distance of five kilometers (about three miles).
Those participating are asked to complete their 5K in whatever way they can and then donate a minimum of £5 to one of the charities that have signed up.
There are plenty of charities that have taken part in past years and would gladly welcome donations again this year, including:
However, you can donate to any cause close to your heart.
The virtual challenge runs across the whole month of May.
How to take part in 5k in May
You can sign up for the official challenge on the Run for Heroes website – however, you can still participate without opting to sign up.
Then all you need to do is get up and get 5K of physical activity done.
Once you’ve completed the task, you then need to donate £5 (or an amount you’re happy to spare) to a charity of your choice.
You are then encouraged to share your achievement on social media, and tag five friends that you nominate to take on the challenge.
Remember to use the official #5kMay hashtag.
