Everton boss Frank Lampard offers positive update on Man United’s Van de Beek

Everton manager Frank Lampard has revealed Manchester United loanee Donny van de Beek could be fit in time to aid the Toffees in their Premier League survival push.

The Dutchman enjoyed a positive start to his temporary spell on Merseyside but thigh and groin problems have hampered his game time at Goodison Park. He missed four games before returning to the bench for the draw with Leicester City last month, however, a groin issue has kept him out of the last three.

During Van de Beek’s absence, Lampard has managed to steer Everton out of the relegation zone in recent weeks, winning two of their last four matches. With three games remaining, the Toffees’ boss has hinted that the 24-year-old may return from the treatment table and finish the campaign.

” Donny van de Beek is getting closer and I’d like to think he might be involved on Sunday, if not on Thursday [against Crystal Palace],” he said in his press conference on Friday. Brentford visit Goodison on Sunday but it will be a difficult trip for the Bees after the hosts’ rejuvenation in recent weeks.

Although question marks remain for his involvement ahead of the visit of Thomas Frank’s side, he could be in line to face Crystal Palace and Arsenal before the curtain comes down on the 2021/22 season. Van de Beek will be hoping to end his loan spell on a high ahead of a reunion with former manager Erik ten Hag — who will take charge of United in the summer.
