Evatt gives key update on Bolton duo Darcy and Politic’s future

Bolton Wanderers are yet to make a decision on Ronan Darcy’s future when he returns from his loan spell at Sogndal while there has been no further discussions on Dennis Politic’s contract after a new deal was turned down.

The duo are both out on loan at present, with Politic at League Two side Port Vale and Darcy at Sogndal in Norway.

Politic’s spell at Vale Park is poised to last for the rest of the season while Darcy is due to return to Wanderers following the end of the Norweigian league campaign in December.

Politic has played six times for the Valiants and scored twice in all compeitions so far after working his way into Darrell Clarke’s team.

He was offered a fresh deal at Wanderers earlier this season, but that was declined, and he is poised to be out of contract next summer as things stand.

And Evatt is waiting to see how things develop after confirming there has been no further dialogue over the attacker’s future.

He told the Manchester Evening News: “I don’t think we’ve had any further dialogue with Dennis or his agent. As I said, we made him an offer.

“That offer was politely declined so for now we’ll play it by ear and see how things develop.”

Darcy meanwhile has played seven times for Sogndal, but been in and out of Eirik Bakke’s side so far this campaign.

Evatt has spoken on the future of Darcy, who has put pen to paper on a new Bolton contract until the summer of 2023, when he returns to Wanderers and the difficulties he has experienced being in and out of the Sogndal team, as well as recently witnessing a player collapse during a game.

And the Bolton boss will wait until Darcy is back in the building before making a decision on the youngster’s next career move, but has not ruled out him staying at Wanderers and fighting for a place in the squad.

He said: “He’s been in and out football wise. It’s the same with Dennis (Politic), we can provide these loans for players but I will never expect to pick a manager’s team for them.

“The players have to go and earn the right to be in the team and I’d expect the same here. If a club demanded a loan player to play every game then it would be a firm no, we wouldn’t take them in the first place because players have to earn the right to get in football teams.

“Ronan has been in and out. I spoke to him a week or so ago. He obviously had an unfortunate incident where one of his players, quite close to him, collapsed on the pitch and was taken to hospital with a serious heart condition.

“For a young player to witness that, it can be difficult. But it speaks volume to Ronan’s character that he’s taken on the challenge of being in a foreign country away from his parents, away from his family and focusing solely on his football. We’re looking forward to getting him back.

“He needs to play regular football so we’ll get Ronan back and see where he’s at, and we’ll make a decision on it.

“Fortunately for Ronan at the moment we’re one lighter with Sarc (Antoni Sarcevic) leaving in that position, which could open up a spot for him. But again he’s got to come back and earn it.”
