Eurovision pick Strictly’s AJ Odudu as points host as they move out of London

BBC Eurovision has revealed that Strictly star AJ Odudu will be the United Kingdom’s spokesperson for the Eurovision Song Contest this year. The BBC shared the exciting news on social media and captioned the post: “Ciao Italia, this is SALFORD calling!

“@AJOdudu will be the first #Eurovision spokesperson to present the UK jury’s douze points from the North West.” The 34-year old British presenter is best known for fronting programmes such as Big Brother’s Bit on the Side on Channel 5, and recently competed in the latest series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Many fans have taken to the comment section to congratulate AJ on her achievement. One Twitter user wrote: “A terrific choice, YES AJ.” A second person commented: “She will be brilliant!! Love this.” A third said: “Fabulous choice! AJ is going to charm the rest of Europe whilst giving the UK votes.”

The Blackburn-born star will be the first spokesperson to announce the results of the jury vote from Manchester. In previous years the BBC have announced the results from a studio in London, with Amanda Holden being chosen as the spokesperson last year.

Taking place in Turin, Rylan and radio presenter Scott Mills will present the first semi-final of Eurovision on Tuesday, May 10 and then the second on Thursday, May 12, before Graham Norton takes over for the final on the 14th May.

TikTok star Sam Ryder will be representing the United Kingdom at Eurovision 2022 with his song Space Man. The announcement was made by Scott Mills on BBC Radio One Breakfast with Greg James on March 10th.

Sam, who has over 12 million followers on the social media app, shot to fame after covering hits with his extraordinary voice during lockdown, catching the attention of Justin Bieber and Sia.
