European royal channels one of Princess Kate’s most iconic coat dress moments
Coat dresses have become something of a trademark style worn by Kate, Princess of Wales, and the trend has caught on with other royals.
While her British relatives including Queen Camilla, Zara Tindall and Princess Anne are all loyal wearers of the tailored garment, royals across the pond also love it.
Most recently, Princess Delphine of Belgium was spotted in a style almost identical to Kate’s iconic Trooping the Colour outfit.
From the length of the hemlines to the structured shoulder detailing, there were few elements of the European royal’s dress that were different to Princess Kate’s.
However, the most notable deviation was the vibrant pattern and statement platform heels Delphine wore on Belgian National Day.
The Princess of Wales’s Trooping the Colour dress was a bespoke number designed by Andrew Gn. While it was made from a simplistic emerald green fabric, the timeless design was bejewelled with statement sapphire buttons.
Not only was the dress a new design for Kate at the time but also significant in its meaning. The Princess chose to wear a green outfit on the day to pay homage to her association with the Irish Guards.
Though Princess Delphine’s dress was also bespoke, the garment was made by Ebru Sari, owner of Atelier ExC, rather than Andrew Gn.
Crafted from unique fabric designed by Delphine de Saxe-Coburg, the style sparked a conversation with royal fashion experts, including a blogger known as Royal Fashion Police (@royalfashionpolice).
The fashion expert questioned whether Princess Delphine’s dress was “inspired by” Kate’s Trooping the Colour dress, noting that they saw the resemblance “immediately”.
Both dresses featured a modest crew neckline made from a contrasting shiny fabric that was different to the body of the garment.
Complete with fitted long sleeves, pockets positioned on the hips, and seam detailing down the centre and along the hem, the base styles were almost identical.
The Belgian royal even teamed her patterned dress with a wide-brim white hat by Cornelia to compliment the varied colour palette used elsewhere in her outfit.
Unlike Kate, however, Delphine opted for a statement pair of platform heels in a bold shade of blue. Designed by Morobe, the exact style is known as the Selma 13 Blue Leather Pumps.
When the British royal debuted the elegant coat-style dress she wore a pair of timeless court-style stilettos in a matching shade of green.
The inspired look donned by the European princess is just one of many occasions where Kate has influenced other feminine styles.
Zara Tindall in particular is one of many royals known to wear similar outfits to the Princess of Wales, and even Queen Camilla has put her own twist on some of her daughter-in-law’s go-to outfits in the past.
