Euphoria: Will there be a season 3?

With many counting down the hours until Euphoria’s season two finale, devoted fans are already wondering if they’re going to see Rue Bennett and the students of East Highland return for more debauchery fuelled madness.

Zendaya leads the charge as Rue – a recovering drug addict dealing with the complexities of daily life – for the last time in the second instalment, alongside Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Alexa Demie, Hunter Schafer, Maude Apatow, Angus Cloud, and Barbie Ferreira, and judging by the promo, the drama will intensify to new extremes.

Episode seven titled, The Theater and Its Double, ended with Lexi Howard’s (Apatow) not-so-subtle school play which her peers didn’t seem to like – no surprise there as it was a musically crafted dig aimed at each of them.

Cassie Howard (played by Sweeney) however, took the shade to heart, and the episode concluded with her walking the school halls alone

While we don’t know what episode eight has in store, we simply can’t get enough of the gritty drama. So is there more to come?

Will there be a third season of Euphoria?

Of course, there is!

HBO renewed the fan-favorite, which is directed by Sam Levinson, for a third season and broke the joyous news on Twitter on February 4 this year.

Executive Vice President of HBO Programming, told Deadline: ‘We couldn’t be more honored to work with this gifted, wildly talented team or more excited to continue our journey with them into Season 3.’

Fans believe another Emmy win is in sight for Zendaya, following her sublime performance in episode five.

‘Literally had chills!! It was so Raw and Realistic! BEST performance I’ve seen in a while @zendaya #Euphoira’ one person wrote following the premiere of Stand Still Like the Hummingbird.

Despite the critical acclaim, the programme also faced backlash after organisation Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E) slammed the show for glamorising sex, and other destructive behaviours, while other viewers claimed Zendaya’s character didn’t have enough screen time.

Responding to the controversy, the Malcolm and Marie actress told Entertainment Weekly: ‘It was important for certain characters who we didn’t really get to see much of last season having more time to get to know them and explore their characters.’

She added: ‘But it’s kind of also Rue as an unreliable narrator, in the sense that she’s just trying to skate by without people noticing that she’s doing what she’s doing, and trying not to get caught.’

Although bosses remain tight-lipped over the plot, judging by previous patterns, we assume season three will pick up where season two ends.

Euphoria’s season two finale airs Monday February 28 on NOW and Sky Atlantic in the UK.
