Euphoria season 2 episode 4 recap: The jig is up for Rue Bennett and Cal Jacobs

We’re at the halfway point (Picture: HBO)

Warning: spoilers ahead for episode four of Euphoria on Sky Atlantic and Now

We’ve reached the halfway point in Euphoria’s second chapter, and with every episode presented to us so far, the drama, obviously, still continues.

Fans got to see why Cal Jacobs (Eric Dane) is the way he is and Rue Bennet’s (Zendaya) latest business venture resulted in her mentor Ali (Colman Domingo) turning his back on her.

The unproblematic Lexi Howard (Maude Apatow) is just trying to make sure everything is perfect for the school play.

Now with the premiere of the fourth installment out in the open, let’s break down what happened in You Who Cannot See, Think of Those Who Can.

Things heat up between Jules and Elliot

Euphoria season 2

It seems like Jules and Elliot have put past feeling behind them (Picture: HBO)

The previous episode saw Jules Vaughn (Hunter Schafer) making her feelings about Rue’s new friend Elliot (Domonic Fike) pretty clear, as she was convinced he was hiding something.

However, in a twist fans may or may not have seen coming, Jules and Elliot started getting a little close before Rue knocked on Elliot’s bedroom door.

With the pair feeling a little hot and bothered over what happened about twenty seconds prior, Jules suggested a quick game of truth or dare, and of course in true Euphoria style, things got saucy very quickly.

Jules dared Elliot to kiss Rue which he did with ease, but when Jules dared him to make a move on her, Rue’s attitude started to change.

Rue made herself scarce, went into Elliot’s bathroom, and took a pill.

After the notoriously popular party game got a little old, Rue, Jules, and Elliot took a drive down to their local corner shop.

Elliot managed to distract the shopkeeper so Jules could steal alcohol, and they later drove back to his place before Rue changed her mind, telling her pals that she wanted to ‘go home.’

Feeling a little deflated, Jules was distracted as Elliot tried to make the most of their rare alone time, but things took a turn when he told her the truth about his drug use with Rue.

Elsewhere, in another drug-fuelled vision, Rue was seen attending a funeral, which allowed viewers to understand the one thing she’s truly afraid of – death.

The scene concluded with her walking towards singer and songwriter Labrinth, who is the genius behind season one and two’s beautifully constructed soundtrack.

Cal walks away for good… we think

Episode three titled, Ruminations: Big and Little Bullys, provided viewers an insight into Cal’s younger years, as he explored his sexuality for the first time.

However, after an intense chat with his son, Nate (Jacob Elordi) who hinted that the tape of him having sex with Jules is still out there, Cal decided a night away would do him good.

A drunk Cal, who was still suffering from a nasty head injury after being attacked by Fezco’s (Angus Cloud) little brother Ashtray, decided to let his hair down and drove down to the same gay bar he went to with his school buddy Derek, 20 years ago.

He started to get a little rowdy with some of the regulars, which resulted in him being kicked out by security.

The dad of two later arrived home and woke his wife Marsha, Nate, and his eldest son Aaron up by peeing in the middle of the hallway,

If that wasn’t striking enough, Cal also told his family some home truths about his secret life before leaving the house.

But is he gone for good? Only time will tell.

Maddy Perez’s birthday party ended the way we thought it would

Euphoria season 2 episode 4 recap

Maddy’s birthday ended the way all festivities do… in chaos (Picture: HBO)

Maddy Perez (Alexa Demie) and the posse gathered to celebrate her birthday, and for the first part it didn’t seem like any drama would follow… but cue in Nate.

Fans have already witnessed a new secret couple on the scene which involves Nate and Cassie Howard (Sydney Sweeney), but the oblivious Cassie wasn’t aware that Maddy and Nate had been meeting up privately…

As Nate started ignoring Cassie’s lingering looks, she quickly changed into something that would get his attention – a stringy hot pink bikini.

While Kat Hernandez (Barbie Ferreira) questioned what Cassie was doing, Maddy paid no attention to the drastic outfit change and suggested for everyone to get into the hot tub.

Arguments began in the hot tub, with a drunk Cassie apologising profusely to Maddy.

While it looked like she was about to tell Maddy that she and Nate have been hooking up behind her back, she started violently throwing up.

Will she finally come clean? We’ll see next week…

Episode five of Euphoria airs February 6 on Sky Atlantic and Now.
