AI technology is bridging the gaps in the beauty industry.

Helping to make beauty more inclusive, AI is increasingly being used in pioneering tools and gadgets.

Now, Estée Lauder Companies are the latest to drop a new invention, with their Voice-Enabled Makeup Assistant (VMA) application.

It’s a mobile app designed to help visually impaired users apply makeup more easily and confidently.

In the UK alone, the NHS estimates that more than 2million people are living with sight loss.

Working with visually impaired users, the beauty giant set out to create an empowering experience, boosting user independence.

The app, though live now on the Apple Store, will continue to be developed over the coming months, with plans for it to launch on Google Play within the year.

Lancôme recently launched a tool to help disabled makeup wearers apply products with more ease, and more launches like this are expected to come.

Michael Smith, chief information officer at The Estée Lauder Companies, says: ‘Technology is a powerful tool to drive inclusion and we are delighted to be first to market with this pioneering app.

‘We are committed to building innovative technology solutions that make beauty truly inclusive to everyone.

‘We are thrilled to bring the experience of independently applying makeup to the millions of people that are visually impaired.’

The app uses voice instructions, audio feedback and tips on whether their lipstick, eyeshadow, or foundation is evenly applied, along with where touch ups might be needed.

It’s an industry game-changer.
