Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood could be loaned out next season as Erik ten Hag is reluctant to offload the striker on a permanent basis.

The 21-year-old hasn’t played for the club in 18 months following charges for rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour and assault.

Those charged were dropped in February but Greenwood has remained under suspension by United.

United bosses have been conducting an investigation of their own and holding internal talks as to decide Greenwood’s future.

Ten Hag complemented Greenwood’s ability in an interview with the Times in May, saying: ‘He has showed in the past that he is capable of doing that [centre forward role]’.

The Manchester Evening News say Ten Hag is reluctant to sell the forward and feels the best move is to loan him out next season.

Clubs in Italy and Turkey have shown interest in Greenwood, who has one cap for England.

Greenwood reportedly put his Cheshire property up for rent recently, indicating that he could be leaving the north-west.

United are in the market for a new striker but the club are under strict financial constraints that could limit their spending to around £120m.
