Erik ten Hag reveals when Antony could make Manchester United debut
The Brazilian is set to complete a £84million move to Old Trafford today after undergoing his medical at Carrington on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old was identified as a priority target by Ten Hag early in the transfer window but United waited until the final week of August before ramping up their interest.
United face Leicester at the King Power Stadium on Thursday night and Antony would have to be registered before midday on Wednesday in order to play, which has been ruled out.
That means Antony will first be available to play for his new club against league leaders Arsenal, who visit Old Trafford on Sunday.
Asked if Antony could play against the Gunners, Ten Hag said in a press conference today: ‘I hope so.’
The Dutchman was, however, keen to stress that the transfer must go through smoothly as the window closes at 11pm on Thursday.
‘First, we have to sign him,’ said Ten Hag.
‘So there’s an agreement between the clubs but the paperwork is not done so I can’t go too deep.
‘Offensive department, we still need to strengthen our squad because we have many games to cover, from now we go three games a week, every third or fourth day.
‘As you know, especially from offensive players, they fatigue quicker, they have to run more, higher intensity, we expect that from them. We don’t only need quantity, we need quality.’
