A RARE model of Ferrari owned by British singer and guitarist Eric Clapton is up for grabs and there is an exciting upgrade available.

Car & Classic Head of Editorial Chris Pollitt said: “Even without taking into account this Modena’s original owner, the car is in exceptionally good condition and quite rare in its own right.

“Add the ‘Slowhand’ touch, and you really have the automotive equivalent of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to which Clapton was famously inducted not once, but three times.”

The 2003 model’s listing read: “3.6l naturally aspirated V8 engine, rare manual gearbox, excellent condition and service history, low mileage.”

The fitting upgrade is an improved sound system with Becker CD changer, should you wish to blast one of the previous owner’s hits.

‘Rosso’ paintwork covers the first all-aluminium body and spaceframe built by the Italian sportscar manufacturer but the engine is a lot more unique.

It’s DOHC 40-valve 3.6 V8 engine is mated to a very rare and desirable manual gearbox.

Currently there are five bids for the motor, the highest ranking at £42,000 while the lowest went in at £20,000.

Cars and Classic’s auction advertisement read: “The seats still hold their shape nicely, with firm bolstering. Likewise, the carpets appear to be in very good order, with no evident damage or staining.

“The upper part of the dashboard is trimmed in black leather and looks to be in a very fine state, with no tears, UV damage or notable wear. Much the same can be said of the majority of the switchgear and controls.

“All of the instruments are legible and present well, with no warning lights showing on the binnacle.”

The buyer will have to deal with a few ‘minor blemishes’ but nothing of concern as it has been rated ‘in excellent condition’.

Everything about the car’s exterior is also up to standard with no evidence of damage or dents on the body panels or paintwork.

The auction will run for a week, until October 9.
