Epic end to ‘one of the greatest matches ever’
New Zealand has become just the fourth team in Test history to win after being forced to follow-on, after beating England by one run in a remarkable match in Wellington.
Set 258 to win, England slumped to 5-80, before a 121-run partnership between Joe Root and Ben Stokes tipped the match in favour of the visitors.
But Stokes was dismissed for 33, and Root went two overs later for 95, leaving England at 7-202.

That became 8-215 when Stuart Broad fell, leaving England to find 43 runs from their final two wickets.
Ben Foakes and Jack Leach took the visitors to within seven, but there was one last twist, with Foakes caught at fine leg.
With two runs to win, James Anderson, in his 179th Test, shaped to glance Neil Wagner, but only succeeded in getting a feather through to wicketkeeper Tom Blundell, who took a neat catch to his right.
The last team to win after being forced to follow-on was India, who beat Australia at Eden Gardens in 2001.
It’s also just the second time in 2494 Tests that a team has won by one run, after the West Indies defeated Australia in Adelaide in 1993.
MORE TO COME.
