Marlie Packer’s hat-trick headlined the Red Roses’ win in Hunter’s home city of Newcastle.

Hunter, 37, who confirmed her retirement earlier this week, said: “I’m overwhelmed.

“To put in the performance we did is so  special, I couldn’t think of a better way to end my career. When I came  off, I just wanted to bottle that moment. The crowd was insane.”

Claudia MacDonald and Amy Cokayne scored twice against the Scots, with Tatyana Heard, Poppy Cleall and Sadia Kabeya also crossing.

Boss Cunningham said: “I genuinely believe Sisilia can be one of the best props in the world.

“I’m chuffed with how we stuck to our game plan. We are delighted with the crowd, that gave us such a boost, and our front row were outstanding.”

The 4,962 Arms Park crowd — a Wales record for a women’s international — saw Alex Callender, Keira Bevan, Sioned Harries and Hannah Jones seal a bonus point for the home side inside  the first 32 minutes.

Nichola Fryday got a late try for Ireland, who won  45-0 in Wales two years ago.
