‘Enchanting’ UK beach Brits say is like the Med & rated higher than Seychelles

A BEACH in the UK has been described as a “fairytale” with almost three quarters of Brits convinced it is abroad.

The cost of going abroad on holiday is rising, but fortunately there are some amazing spots for Brits to visit, without even leaving the country.

One of those is Rhossili Bay Beach in the Gower peninsula, in Wales, described by Visit Swansea Bay as being “a rich and varied environment which is as ecologically diverse as it is beautiful”.

The beach regularly features in Wales’ Best Beach top 10 and has been voted number one several times.

It has also previously been named the best beach in the country and in 2014, it even made the world’s top 10, ahead of places in the Seychelles, South Africa, Mexico and Australia.

It has three miles of golden sandy shore, all overlooked by its famous headland, the Worm’s Head, which juts out into the sea, marking the Gower’s most westerly point.

One person who was amazed by the beach was Tiktoker Spellbound Travels (@spellboundtravels) who described it as a “spectacular” place to spend a day.

She said: “No one can tell me that the beaches in South Wales aren’t spectacular.

“Rhossili Bay is one of my fave areas! If you’re planning to visit, make sure you go to Worm’s Head during low tide & spend the rest of the day on the beach.”

Others were amazed by her footage, with one commenting: “The horses, the coast line, the landscape…UNREAL.”

Another said: “Fairytale land.”

A third added: “Wow such a beautiful place.”

The beach’s natural beauty has also been known to trick people into thinking it’s abroad.

Nearly three quarters (73 per cent) thought it was not in the UK, according to a survey carried out by Gordon’s Gin in 2021.

Travel blogger, John Potter, said: “It actually felt and looked more like the Mediterranean.”

Meanwhile, My London said: “Rhossili Bay Beach in Swansea, Wales, is an absolute paradise…it feels like you’re actually in Greece.”

Another word used to describe the bay was “enchanting” with Youtuber A Dad and 2 Kids sharing footage from his day at the beach in a video titled: “Exploring the Enchanting Beauty of Rhossili Bay.”

One aspect that could lead you to feel like you’re somewhere more tropical is the wildlife, with common dolphins “often approaching boats to swim alongside” during the warmer months.

Grey seals and harbour porpoises can also be spotted swimming in the Gower’s waters, according to Gower Coast Adventures.

Holiday rental homes nearby to Rhossili Bay are available from around £41pp per night on Airbnb.

A night in the Worm’s Head hotel, including breakfast, is available from £45pp per night.

The beach can be reached by bus from Swansea, by getting off at the Rhossili Terminus, a three minute walk from the bay.

Meanwhile, you can sip pints while watching dolphins and whales from the pub garden.

And these are some of the most tranquil staycation spots in the country.
