Emmerdale star Mark Charnock issues warning to fans over ‘weird’ discovery

Mark Charnock released a statement to fans as a message of protection after finding that someone had been impersonating him on Facebook.

Emmerdale’s Marlon Dingle star, 54, warned fans that an imposter had been pretending to be the actor.

Mark tweeted to his 188,600 followers: “Anyone engaging with “me” on Facebook, that isn’t me. I’m me. And I’m not on Facebook.

“The person on Facebook is weirder. I think. Hope that helps.”

One user shared a supportive message after Mark discovered the scam: “It’s always tricky to navigate the world of social media impersonations, especially when it comes to the weirder ones.

“Hopefully this helps clear things up a bit!”

Another added: “There’s so many ‘fakers’ out there!”

Others quizzed the TV star in reference to his character Marlon Dingle: “Weirder the already weird enough? Is that possible?”

Another user wrote: “Weirder than Marlon?”

Mark has appeared on the show for over 25 years, having portrayed Marlon since 1996.

The Lancashire-born actor has been involved in several major storylines, including a life-threatening stroke.

Earlier this month, the actor was surprised when he won this year’s Outstanding Achievement accolade at The Soap Awards.

Former Emmerdale stars Gemma Atkinson, Sheree Murphy and Verity Rushworth made a surprise appearance as they presented the award.

The trio, who were also the actor’s on-screen exes, paid tribute to Mark, calling him an “incredible actor”, and reminisced about their characters over the years.

Mark also used the opportunity to fight back at TV critics during his acceptance speech.

He replied: “Everybody in this room, we work in a genre where sometimes people are a bit, they can be a bit snooty sometimes.

“But you know what? They don’t get it, because the work that goes into these shows, how much it means to all of us…”

He added: “The stories that we pump out every week, that mean so much to people; I don’t think we should allow ourselves to be talked down.”

Mark ended the speech with “thank you to everyone. What a job. I’m so proud to be part of this”.
