Emma Willis almost ruined husband Matt’s marriage proposal

Emma Willis shared Matt Willis had flown her to Venice, Italy, for a birthday treat, but she was unaware he had plans to pop the question and almost ruined the surprise.

The 47-year-old said during their trip things had gotten “weird” with her beau and she assumed he wanted to break off the relationship.

Speaking on the ITV2 show, Shopping With Keith Lemon in 2021, the host asked: “You fell in love and got married. Did [Matt] propose or did you propose?”

Emma confirmed her other half asked for her hand in marriage.

The comic quizzed further: “On one knee?”

“He tried to…” Emma mused as she appeared to trail off.A curious Keith asked: “Did he fall over?”

“No, I stopped him,” Emma chuckled. “He had taken me to Venice for my birthday and he went all weird on me.”

She continued: “He stopped talking to me for about a day.

“I thought that maybe he regretted taking me away and was probably going to break up with me.”

The Voice Kids presenter admitted she felt things were not as they seemed when she realised her partner had other plans.

She said: “Then I started thinking, ‘Maybe there’s something more to this.’

“Anyway, we walked up to the Rialto Bridge and he pulled this box out of his pocket.”

Emma added: “He went to get down [on one knee] and I just looked at him in the eye and went, ‘Don’t you f***ing dare.”

Keith appeared taken aback by her brutal response, as she explained: “It’s because it’s full of tourists. I felt a little bit silly.”

Matt proposed to Emma in 2007 after two years of dating and the couple wed the following year and to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary, the pair renewed their vows in July 2018.

The couple are also proud parents to three children – Isabella, 13, Ace, ten, and six-year-old Trixie.

The Voice Kids airs tonight on ITV at 7pm.
