Emma Raducanu to play in Transylvania Open as US Open champion’s return picks up pace
Emma Raducanu has entered her third tournament since winning the US Open as a qualifier. After putting her name down on the entry list for the Kremlin Cup in Moscow in mid-October and taking a wild card into the WTA 1000 in Indian Wells that begins next week, the new world No 22 has now confirmed she will play the Transylvania Open at the end of October, in her father’s home country of Romania.
Raducanu is filling up her calendar as she makes the transition to life on the pro circuit full-time.
The 18-year-old made history by becoming the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam title at the US Open earlier this month, failing to drop a set through three qualifying matches and seven main-draw matches.
Her historic victory propelled her into the world’s top 25, as the teenager entered the US Open at a then-career high of world No 150 and rose to world No 23, since climbing one place higher in the rankings.
After taking some time to let the unprecedented title run sink in, Raducanu is back to work, and has now announced her participation in a third tournament since winning in New York.
