Emma Raducanu questioning relationships and tipped to ditch entourage
Tennis star Emma Raducanu will be ‘questioning relationships’ and is tipped to ditch her entourage after undergoing surgery on her hands and ankle. Former British No 1 Andrew Castle says that the 2021 US Open winner will be questioning those around her during a break in action after a quick rise to stardom.
At just 18years old Raducanu entered Flushing Meadows as a relative unknown, winning three qualifying matches to earn her place in the main draw. In a remarkable run, the world No 150 won her next seven matches without losing a set to win her first Grand Slam.
Since the incredible victory Raducanu has attracted a host of sponsorship deals, but failed to replicate her heroics on the court. Last season the British No 1 was hampered by injuries and her recurring wrist injury contributed to a first-round defeat at the Miami Open.
A right wrist tendinitis problem resulted in the 20-year-old withdrawing from the Madrid Open and dropping out of the world’s top 100 rankings. Castle, who never made it past the third round in a major singles competition, says Raducanu’s quick rise to stardom will result in her questioning her relationships during a prolonged break which could span the season.

He told Tennis 365: “She went front unknown to Grand Slam champion and all the madness that goes with it. She would have asked who are my friends? How am I interacting with them and are they interacting with me because I’m famous?
“Relationships with family members, her new status in the world, a dramatically changed financial situation. My message would be just relax. Give her some time and try and enjoy it all.” Raducanu seems to have taken Castle’s advice and shared a light-hearted update from her hospital bed on Friday after she underwent her second of three surgeries.
