‘Embarrassing’ hotel room feature being rolled out across resorts

HOLIDAYMAKERS have shared their horror stories about their most hated hotel feature, which absolutely no one seems to like.

Seeing your hotel room for the first time is usually quite exciting, but a recent design development has caused some guests to feel nervous about booking a night away.

Glass bathroom cubicles are becoming more and more common in hotel rooms now, even though everybody seems to hate them.

The transparent bathrooms are particularly baffling considering how many couples stay in hotel rooms together.

Few things are likely to kill the mood on a romantic getaway as much as seeing your partner doing their business on the toilet.

Comedian Chris Parker made fun of the subject in a recent video on his Instagram (@chrisparker11), in which he suggested no couple could survive a stay in a hotel with such a feature.

Chris also asked his followers to share their horror stories about the bathrooms, with many obliging.

One said that they had stayed in a hotel with “a frosted glass door that didn’t fully extend to the floor or ceiling when she and a friend “had food poisoning in Vietnam”.

She added: “We would play Katy Perry’s ‘Roar’ to cover the sounds from the bathroom.”

Another said: “We stayed in one like this in Amsterdam… except they put the frosted film on wrong, and you could 100% just see EVERYTHING while one of us was on the loo.”

As well as being able to see everything, sound also seems to be an issue in the glass cubicles, which echo much more than a normal bathroom.

One person commented: “What’s worse is that those cubicles basically amplify the embarrassing poop noises.”

They also pointed out that, as well as sounds, smells easily escape the cubicles too, adding: “Even when the door is shut afterwards.. they’re not airtight, so you just have to exist in the room with the smell. A true nightmare.”

However, with so many hotels using the glass cubicles, there must be a reason for them to be used.

According to Drench, an interiors supplier, the glass cubes can make smaller rooms feel bigger.

They also claim younger people are less fussy about privacy.

They told the Sydney Morning Herald: “Today’s generation are more comfortable with being exposed, hence this growing phenomenon.

“The lack of dividing walls means that natural lighting can fill the room and the panoramic views can be fully appreciated.

“If well-designed, the close proximity can make the bedroom-bathroom areas feel much more spacious than they actually are.”

Smart glass company Smart Glass Country agreed, saying the use of glass is an effective space-saving method.

They claim: “Switchable glass makes it easy to integrate glass bathroom enclosures, doors and room dividers into any hotel room without compromising on privacy.”

They also say that smart glass technology “gives hotels that much needed ‘wow’ factor”.

However, it seems few hotel guests actually agree with those reasons, with one commenter on Chris’ video saying: “Whoever signed off on these designs needs a special place in design hell forever.”
