Elvis Presley Lisa Marie: ‘I was a wreck after discovering my father had died’

Tomorrow, August 16, 2021, marks the 44th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death. The singer, who died in 1977, was just 42-years-old when he was found in his bathroom at Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee. A coroner report later revealed the star had died of a cardiac arrest, something he suffered while reading on the toilet. His only child, Lisa Marie Presley, was just nine years old at the time and in the next room when he was found dead.

Lisa Marie spoke in a TV interview for the 35th anniversary of Elvis’ death, where she recalled the last time she saw her father.

She said: “I don’t like talking about this. It was August 16th, at 4am.

“I was supposed to be asleep, actually. He found me, you know. [He said:] ‘Go to bed.’ I said: ‘Okay.'”

The King then kissed her and put her back to bed. She added: “That was the last time I saw him alive.”

Lisa Marie then opened up on waking up and realising her father had died.

Lisa Marie recalled: “I knew something was wrong, because I was in my room which was right next to his bathroom.

“So I knew that something was very wrong. All the commotion and everything. I was a wreck.”

She added: “I was a mess, but I was also confused because I was so upset.”

Lisa Marie reportedly asked the funeral director, Robert Kendall, if she could give her daddy something.

At first, Robert and Priscilla Presley were a little reluctant to let Lisa Marie do it, but they eventually allowed it.

The young girl then gave Robert one of her own bangles, which he placed upon Elvis’ right wrist.

Priscilla then asked Robert to cover the bangle with Elvis’ cuff to prevent anyone from stealing the jewellery.

Countless people attended the funeral, including a number of Elvis’ former girlfriends.

Included in this line-up was Ann-Margret, who was utterly distraught to learn about the King’s death.

The actress wrote in her memoir that she saw Elvis’ father, Vernon Presley, at the event. She said they hugged tightly and cried.
