Taking to micro-blogging platform, Musk wrote,”We’re purging accounts that have had no activity at all for several years, so you will probably see follower count drop.”

Elon Musk says Twitter users will witness drop in followers: Here is why

It’s worth noting that Musk is the most followed person on Twitter, with over 138 million followers. He achieved this milestone in March by surpassing former US President Barack Obama.

Twitter’s policy mandates that users should log in to their accounts at least once every 30 days to avoid permanent removal due to prolonged inactivity.
Earlier this month, Musk ‘threatened’ to reassign National Public Radio’s Twitter account to another company after the public broadcaster stopped posting content to its 52 official Twitter feeds in protest against a Twitter label that implied government involvement in its editorial content.

Last month, Twitter removed the legacy verified blue tick from the profiles of thousands of people, including celebrities, journalists, and prominent politicians, and restored it for free only for those with over 1 million followers.

Musk has made account verification a part of Twitter’s Blue subscription, a move he said would tackle the issue of bot accounts on the social media platform.

On April 30, Musk had declared that Twitter will introduce a new feature in May that will enable media publishers to charge users on a per-article basis with just one click. He tweeted that this platform would allow occasional readers who wouldn’t sign up for a monthly subscription to pay a higher price per article. This move is expected to be advantageous for both media organizations and the public.
