Elon Musk issues dark warning over ‘Terminator future’ as he launches AI company
ELON Musk has issued a dire warning about the future of AI as he starts his own company.
The news comes as Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg is also forging ahead with his own AI plans.
Musk tweeted on July 12: “Announcing formation of @xAI to understand reality.”
The AI company’s website states that its goal is to “understand the true nature of the universe.”
More information about xAI is forthcoming.
So far, the xAI team includes engineers and developers from Microsoft, DeepMind, and OpenAI.
Musk is slated to host a Twitter Spaces event on July 14 to explain more.
Ahead of that, Musk shared with listeners on Twitter Spaces following the announcement of xAI: “It’s important for us to worry about a Terminator future in order to avoid a Terminator future.”
Musk has previously called for a halt to the global AI race.
He reiterated that message, telling his followers: “If I could put a pause on AI or really advanced AI – superintelligence – I would. It doesn’t seem that is realistic.”
Meanwhile, Zuckerberg’s Meta is working on an AI product to rival ChatGPT.
Zuckerberg previously released a free AI tool for researchers, Telegraph reported.
But now, the Meta founder is planning a version that can be used by businesses.
While there won’t initially be a cost to use the tool, a fee will eventually be implemented, Telegraph reported.
In addition, Google has also begun working on the expansion of its AI offerings.
Its AI tool, Bard, was recently updated to include 40 more languages.
