Elektra: Marvel’s New Daredevil Faces Her Absolute Worst Nightmare

As Elektra continues to defend Hell’s Kitchen as the new Daredevil, she learns that a murderous threat from her past has resurfaced.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Daredevil #32, on sale now from Marvel.

Elektra Natchios is one of the deadliest assassins in the Marvel Universe, trained from an early age in lethal martial arts before developing a longstanding alliance/animosity with the ancient ninja cult The Hand. However, for all the training and superhero derring-do that Elektra has accomplished over the years, there is still one supervillain that haunts her above all the rest: Her first murderer Bullseye.

And as Elektra continues to defend Hell’s Kitchen as the Marvel Universe’s latest Daredevil, Elektra’s worst fears are realized when she finds herself ambushed by not one but multiple killers dressed as the deranged villain continues his bloody rampage.

Daredevil Elektra Bullseye

Daredevil #32 — by Chip Zdarsky, Mike Hawthorne, Adriano di Benedetto, Marcio Menyz and VC’s Clayton Cowles — as Elektra confront Wilson Fisk’s bloodiest mistake. As the Mayor of New York City decided to resume his feud with Daredevil after making an attempt to go legitimate and focus his attention to his political career. Fisk’s secret weapon was a captive Bullseye, detained in a secret laboratory underneath the Ravencroft Institute, with experiments conducted to develop a way to place Bullseye completely under Fisk’s control. This plan backfired when Bullseye broke free, massacring the team Fisk had assembled, before cutting a bloody path across Manhattan with the intent to seize his revenge on the Mayor while reveling in the murderous mayhem that he indulged in.

For Elektra, the hunt to stop Bullseye before he claimed any more victims was a personal one. In the 1982 classic Daredevil #181 — by Frank Miller, Klaus Janson and Joe Rosen — Elektra and Bullseye dueled to the death over the privilege in who would be able to become the Kingpin’s personal assassin, with Bullseye emerging triumphant. Stick would later resurrect Elektra using The Hand’s dark magic though she and Bullseye would have unfinished business from their previous showdown. The two trained killers would have numerous rematches in the subsequent years, with Bullseye determined to finish what he started and Elektra intent on avenging her own death by killing the man that murdered her a lifetime ago.

Elektra Bullseye Daredevil

With Bullseye on the loose in New York City, Elektra has a talk with Manhattan’s other major superhero Spider-Man, who senses how personal the impending fight is for any hero wearing Daredevil’s crimson cowl. While the friendly neighborhood webslinger warns Elektra to keep a cooler head when dealing with Bullseye rather than let her vendetta get the best of her judgment, Elektra charges into battle against Bullseye only to find herself outnumbered at least three to one, with one Bullseye taking aim at her with a sniper rifle while yet another stabs her in the back as a third Bullseye gloats over her in outmaneuvering the deadly assassin yet again.

With Matt Murdock still firmly behind bars, Elektra is largely on her own against Bullseye, with her teenage sidekick staying out of harm’s way for now. Despite Spider-Man’s warning, however, Elektra has just walked right into the serial killer supervillain’s trap, and has endured some grievous injuries as the triumphant cadre of Bullseyes taunt her. Elektra may still be alive but Bullseye has not been known to leave his victims, including Elektra, alive, with the master assassin potentially enduring death at his hands yet again. And with Elektra off the board, Hell’s Kitchen now stands completely defenseless to the supervillains and mobsters that seek to terrorize it moving forward.
