Electric car charging points hacked to show PORN on screens

PORN websites appeared on electric car charging points in a local council’s car park, after the screens were hacked.

Three car parks on the Isle of Wight were attacked by hackers to reveal “inappropriate web content” on the charging point screens.

The Isle of Wight Council apologised for the incident to “anyone who may have found the inappropriate web content”.

Staff were quick to attend the charging points in order to “cover up” the web addresses. They also cut off any third party interference to stop the hackers.

The screens on electric car charging points are meant to display the network’s website, but the web address had been altered to direct users to a pornographic site.

The council said: “We are saddened to learn that a third-party web address displayed on our electric vehicle (EV) signage appears to have been hacked.”

The authority had previously said the charging points in council car parks were “becoming increasingly unreliable” after a number of complaints. It said these were due to be replaced with “new charge points over the next few months”.

The council’s embarrassment comes a month after Russians electric car chargers were hacked to display messages supporting Ukraine.

Screens on the M-11 motorway between Moscow and Saint Petersburg read “Putin is a di**head”. Other messages included “Glory to Ukraine”, “Glory to the heroes” and “Death to the enemy”.
