Elden Ring Was Originally Going to Get Two DLC Expansions – Rumor

Elden Ring is going to get its Shadow of the Erdtree expansion in the future, but it seems like the game by FromSoftware was originally meant to get two DLC expansions.

As reported on Reddit, well-known hacker Lance McDonald revealed that the game was meant to launch with a season pass for two DLC expansions. The hacker is unsure when plans changed, but apparently, one of the expansions was centered on the Colosseums, as the update introducing the battle arenas is missing a lot of the content planned for the full-blown expansion. While it is disappointing that plans for the Elden Ring expansions changed, Lance McDonald feels this is way better, as it will allow FromSoftware to focus on the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.

Learning that the Elden Ring Colosseums were supposed to be part of a much bigger expansion doesn’t surprise me in the least, as I have found their inclusion to be lackluster, as there isn’t much incentive in fighting more than a few matches, as I highlighted in my piece from last year.

The addition of the Elden Ring Colosseums seems to be a way to get some PvP content out of the way to focus on meatier additions, possibly via paid DLC, but I can’t help but feel that it could have been handled a bit better. In their current state, the PvP modes are something that most players will try out for a few hours before leaving them behind for good. Hopefully, From Software will introduce new features and some rewards down the line that will make these modes a meaningful piece of content like most of the optional content found in the rest of the game.

Elden Ring is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox One worldwide. You can learn more about the game by checking out my review, where I awarded the game a perfect score.
