Eels face ‘agonising’ decision over $1m halves

Parramatta faces the agonising decision in coming weeks of which of their star halves to let go – Michell Moses or Dylan Brown.

The two had best-ever seasons this year – helping the Eels all the way to the grand final.

Both are available to rival clubs for 2024, having failed to come to terms with the Eels before the November 1 deadline last week.

The pair are proven match-winners and among the hottest properties on the open market.

Both can command overs from clubs desperate for class playmakers and, as such, the Eels will find it near impossible to keep them both under the salary cap.

Brown’s manager Gavin Orr told Wide World of Sports his client has around 10 clubs on his trail – and Moses isn’t far behind.

“There are few clubs not interested in Dylan, to be honest,” Orr said.

“Wayne Bennett has made him the new No.1 target at the Dolphins and that will inflate the market.

“Dylan loves the Eels and wants to stay … but he also has to think of his family and his future.”

The Tigers are prepared to throw massive dollars at Moses, a local junior who started his career at the club.

The Bulldogs will also have plenty of money to throw at a quality playmaker and are certain to have a crack at one or the other.

Tigers excited by Kumuls star’s World Cup heroics

Wests Tigers hold high hopes for young Papua New Guinea winger Jimmy Ngutlik, who scored two tries against Wales in the World Cup – including one of the best solo efforts of the tournament.

The 21-year-old is currently contracted to Wests Magpies in the NSW Cup but will train with the Tigers’ top squad when he returns to Sydney and may well force his way into the NRL in the next 18 months.

Coach Tim Sheens started the trend of bringing islander wingers into the game when he signed unknown Fijian Noa Nadruku in the 1990s at Canberra and knows how potent the spectacular speedsters can be.

“He’s got a lot of pace, that’s for sure – we will monitor him closely this season,” Sheens told Wide World of Sports.

Sharks starlet shines on global stage

Another player to announce himself on the global stage in the World Cup has been Greek fullback Siteni Taukamo.

It hasn’t been an easy initiation for the 18-year-old – he was at the back when England thrashed the Greeks a record 94-4.

But the teenager, who is signed to Cronulla for the next three years, managed to score Greece’s only try in that game and wrote his name into the record books a week earlier by scoring the country’s first-ever try at World Cup level.

Taukamo has just finished his schooling at Sydney’s elite rugby school Newington College and the Sharks are confident they have got a special player on their hands.

Knights set to sign Warriors young gun

The Knights are close to signing a powerhouse young winger from the Warriors.

Jarome Falemoe, 17, from Southern Cross Campus School, has been in the Warriors’ system for a couple of years and looks to have a big future.

But the Warriors can’t keep all their good young kids and the Knights are set to pounce.

Falemoe isn’t the only Kiwi player that the Knights are eyeing – they have several more they are talking to and hope to sign up.
