Power management giant Eaton Corp. plans to open a new electrification research lab in Michigan and create 100 EV-focused jobs at several sites in Michigan.
The company, domiciled in Ireland with a North American base in Beachwood, Ohio, is looking to invest $22.5 million to expand its plant in Calhoun County’s Eckford Township and increase its headcount in the Detroit suburbs of Southfield and Canton Township, according to a statement this week from Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and a briefing memo from the Michigan Economic Development Corp.
The jobs will be a mix of newly created positions and existing employees transitioned to EV jobs, the memo said. They will pay $47.41 per hour plus benefits.
The MEDC is supporting the project with a $600,000 performance-based grant that will assist with job training.
The expansion in Eckford Township will include a new 10,000-square-foot lab for testing of powered electronics and high-speed dynamometers. It represents another injection of jobs in Marshall following Ford’s announced plan to build a $3.5 billion battery plant and create 2,500 jobs in the community.
“Eaton has a long history with Marshall …We are excited that they are expanding again locally and creating new jobs and investments in the area of electrification research and e-Mobility,” Marshall Area Economic Development Alliance CEO James Durian said in the release.
