easyJet scraps UK flight route to popular Greek city in major blow

Low-cost airline easyJet said it will no longer be flying from Gatwick Airport to the popular Greek holiday destination of Volos from next summer.

The airline has been running the route since 2018 with two flights each week during the busy season.

easyJet has confirmed it will not be cancelling scheduled flights to Volos.

However, new flights to the Greek holiday hotspot will not be added to its schedule next year.

The Greek holiday destination has been popular among tourists due to its location between the country’s two most popular cities.

easyJet confirmed to the Mirror it would be scrapping the route “following a review” and would instead be concentrating on its most popular routes.

The airline said: “Following a review of the route, we can confirm that flights between London Gatwick and Volos in Greece won’t be going on sale beyond this summer.

“We concentrate our efforts on maintaining and developing routes which prove most popular with customers, focusing on offering routes with the greatest demand.

“We continue to offer customers in the UK 13 Greek destinations and provide more seats from the UK than any other airline to this popular Mediterranean region.”

Volos is the 13th largest city in Greece and is located in Thessaly north of Athens and south of Thessaloniki.

The port city is located in the centre of the country, making it the perfect destination for holidaymakers looking to explore and travel to various parts of the mainland.

The beaches in Volos are especially popular with thousands of visitors flocking to them each year.

The beaches of Agios Dimitrios, Anchialos, Alykes and Pigadia are particularly popular and are famous for their stunning views and scenery.

The port in Volos is among the busiest in Greece and has regular ferry routes to islands such as Skiathos and Skopelos.
