easyJet pilot exposes most difficult airport to land at

Is there a better feeling than looking out the plane window and getting the first sight of the holiday to come?

But while passengers just need to sit back and relax, pilots often need to navigate tricky conditions to land.

An easyJet pilot has exposed the most difficult landings in the airline’s network on the budget carrier’s TikTok.

The pilot said: “There are a few airfields around the easyJet network that require additional training in the simulators due to their complexity.”

He said an airport may be complex due to a short runway, height above sea level or terrain to consider.

Mykonos

The gorgeous Greek island is known for its idyllic beaches and thriving LGBTQ+ scene but the airport can be tricky to navigate.

The pilot said the Greek hotspot has a “very short, narrow” runway that can make it more difficult.

Pilots might spend more time in the simulator before piloting a plane to the beautiful Greek destination.

Funchal, Madeira

Hometown of Cristiano Ronaldo, the capital of the Portuguese island of Madeira is home to another tricky airport.

The pilot said: “That’s got quite a bit of terrain there and some challenging winds to negotiate. So you have to have additional training for that.”

A History Channel Most Extreme Airports ranking once rated the Portuguese airport the ninth most dangerous in the world.

Innsbruck, Austria

The pilot said: “For that one, the captain and the first officer will both need additional training in the simulators.

“And then they’ll need to fly there with the training captain before being able to fly there with passengers.”

Innsbruck Airport has a tricky landing due to the surrounding terrain and the Alps which can create difficult winds and currents.
