Easy airport mistake which could make you miss your flight & affects millions

BRITS trying to get through airport security could be making an easy mistake – and miss their flight because of it.

Currently, Brits have to put all of their liquids in a clear plastic bag, with the liquids no more than 100ml each.

But there is one thing that will also need to be put into a liquids bag that you may not realise – which is inhalers.

The medical items are allowed to be taken in hand luggage, and can be more than 100ml, but some airports are asking travellers to take them out.

Journalist Hannah Al-Othman, who was flying from London City Airport, tweeted: “Scenes at airport security as all the asthmatics are having their bags pulled for inhalers.

“Never had to put mine in the liquids bag before, but apparently now you do.”

She also said another passenger told her they had been flying with an inhaler since 2006 and “never had to do it before”.

Other people had similar problems – one woman said: “We missed a flight due to this in 2016, never made that mistake again (even though it’s not a mistake as an inhaler isn’t f****** liquid).”

Someone else said: “Happened to me in 2019 at Heathrow a couple of time. It’s annoying particularly if you usually keep a rescue inhaler in a handy pocket.”

One woman agreed: “I got searched and patted down at the airport for having my asthma inhaler in my purse.”

A number of travellers said they had problems going through Manchester on Twitter, with their bags being pulled by security if they left their inhaler in it.

The government website confirms that passengers can carry “essential medicines of more than 100ml […] including inhalers” in their hand luggage.

However, they added: You’ll need supporting documentation from a relevant medical professional (for example a letter from your doctor or a copy of your prescription).

“Airport staff might need to open the containers to screen the liquids at the security point. Medical equipment is screened separately.”
