Eamonn Holmes was condemned after he branded Meghan Markle ‘incredibly irritating’
Eamonn Holmes has caused a stir this week after accidentally comparing a guest to a hamster. During a segment on Tuesday’s programme, Eamonn and his co-presenter wife Ruth Langsford were discussing cosmetic surgery with guest Anastasia and Dr Steven Harris. Eamonn is a familiar face on British television and broadcasting, having worked with ITV as well as talkRADIO in the past.
During his time at the radio station, Eamonn sparked another heated debate after he criticised Meghan Markle.
After the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to leave behind royal duties in January 2020, Eamonn said: “I just find her incredibly irritating.
“I’ve never met her, but I look at her and think ‘I don’t think I’d like you in real life’.”
He also said Meghan was “spoilt” and “woke’, before adding: “What I have met is lots of people in TV series and movie stars from America who are mollycoddled beyond belief with PR people around them, and maybe she is just somewhat spoilt.”
His harsh comments were criticised by rapper Stormzy, who defended Meghan from the criticism.
The musician said: “Meghan is a sweet woman, she does her thing. I haven’t heard her say anything crazy and they just hate her.”
Commenting directly on Eamonn’s words, he added: “Bro, she’s black, that’s who you’re talking about. ‘I just look at her and I think she’s got that arrogance.’
“I’m like, nah, she’s black man. Just get the f*** out of here.”
Harry and Meghan’s Royal Family exit was one of the biggest stories of the year, and it also plunged The Firm into uncharted territory.

Following the Sussexes announcement, a statement from The Queen said: “Today my family had very constructive discussions on the future of my grandson and his family.
“My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family.
“Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.”
Eamonn’s wife and colleague Ruth also clashed with Denise Welch on the topic of Harry and Meghan at the time.
On an instalment of Loose Women, Denise suggested that the situation wasn’t going to “go away” before then hitting out at the media’s coverage of the couple.

She said: “These journalists who are being very vitriolic about it. I don’t know why I have this really protective thing about them – I’ve never even met either of them.”
But Ruth stepped in, arguing that some stories the media had published were true.
She replied: “But this is my problem.
“‘The press are being vitriolic’ they were vitriolic – and I don’t even like that word – they reported on stories, rumours that have since become true.
“There were rumours that Harry and William had fallen out, there were rumours that they had talked about going. And it’s all come to fruition now.”
Denise responded: “Yes, but the vitriol bit is that they’re letting down Queen and country.”
She added: “They can’t win!”
