Eagles trade for D’Andre Swift after Lions’ stunning Jahmyr Gibbs pick

The Eagles have their Miles Sanders replacement.

And yet another former Georgia Bulldog.

Philadelphia sent a 2025 fourth-round pick and their seventh-round pick (No. 219) in this year’s NFL Draft to the Lions in exchange for running back D’Andre Swift and Detroit’s 2023 seventh-round pick (No. 249) during Day 3 of the 2023 NFL Draft Saturday afternoon, according to ESPN.

Swift will likely be the Eagles’ top running back after they lost Sanders this offseason.

The Lions were expected to try to trade Swift after stunningly drafting Jahmyr Gibbs, a running back out of Alabama, with the No. 12 overall pick Thursday night.

They also signed running back David Montgomery to a three-year deal worth $18 million this offseason, so the writing was on the wall for Swift.

Sanders spent the last four seasons with the Eagles after they selected him in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

He enjoyed his most productive season last year as he helped the Eagles reach the Super Bowl, recording 1,269 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns.

Sanders signed with the Panthers on a four-year deal worth $25 million, however, leaving the Eagles thin at the position.

Swift spent the last three seasons with the Lions after they selected him in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

He’s flashed his ability in small spurts but dealt with various injuries during his tenure in Detroit.

More of a duel-threat running back, Swift recorded 542 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns along with 389 receiving yards and three rushing touchdowns last season.

A former star at Georgia, it continues the Eagles’ incredible pursuit of former Bulldogs.

The Eagles drafted Jalen Carter (No. 9) and Nolan Smith (No. 30) in the first round on Thursday, both of whom were standouts on Georgia’s national championship-winning defense the past two seasons.

They went a step further Saturday, drafting Kelee Ringo (No. 105), another former Georgia star, along with the trade for Swift.

Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean, two more former Georgia studs, are already on the team after the Eagles drafted them in the first and third rounds, respectively, last year.

The Eagles also have Rashaad Penny, who signed with the team on a one-year, $1.35 million deal this offseason, Kenneth Gainwell and Boston Scott as running backs on the roster.
