Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Black Adam is not a part of the DC Universe’s future
Not even ‘The Rock’ is safe from James Gunn and Peter Safran’s recent culling of the members of the latest iteration of the DC Cinematic Universe.
After teasing the revival of the film series with the arrival of ‘Black Adam’, stating that “The hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change” Dwayne Johnson shared that things may have not exactly gone according to plan. According to a statement, he said “James Gunn and I connected, and Black Adam will not be in their first chapter of storytelling.” But not shutting down the doors on the character, Johnson also goes on to say that “DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be utilized in future DC multiverse chapters.”
It’s not exactly the end for Black Adam, but we can’t certainly say for sure that there is a future for him.
Showing support and respect for the decision, he also states that “These decisions made by James and DC leadership represent their vision of DCU through their creative lens.”
Johnson in various instances in the past has repeatedly asserted his desire to play the role. In his statement, he includes, “After 15 years of relentless hard work to finally make Black Adam, I’m very proud of the film we delivered for fans worldwide. I will always look back on the fan reaction to Black Adam with tremendous gratitude, humility, and love.”

This announcement is the latest update in Gunn and Safran’s recent moves to set up a major reboot for the cinematic universe. Casualties include; Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, Henry Cavill’s Superman, and Jason Momoa’s Aquaman. I have no doubts about the vision that these two have for DC. However, you can’t deny that the casting for these superheroes has been perfect, almost Robert Downey Jr Ironman levels—it’s a shame to see these people go.
