The DVLA offers tens of millions of registrations on its website and earns up to £160m a year from personalising their own number plate, according to Birmingham Live.

But requests can be knocked back if they’re deemed to crude or offensive.

Among the plates banned this year were F22 KER, BA22 TRD, A22 HLE, and TU22 URD.

Covid-themed plates have also been blocked, including CO22 RNA, CO22 ONA and CO22 VD.

The DVLA has also banned two-toned plates. These are number plates that use extra colours to make the letters appear 3D.

A DVLA spokesperson said: “The vast majority of registration numbers are made available but the agency holds back any combinations that may cause offence, embarrassment, or are in poor taste.

“Many people enjoy displaying a personalised registration number and there are over 50m registrations available on our website with almost endless possibilities of combinations to suit a person’s taste, interests and budget.”
