The best new movie trailers and TV show teasers for upcoming streaming titles
Dune
It’s sort of a blessing that all Warner Bros. movies have been debuting on HBO Max this year. Dune is one such big-ticket sci-fi title headed to the streaming service in October. The trailer for the upcoming movie introduces us to the desert planet of Arrakis as it’s set in Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel by the same name. Timothée Chalamet plays the film’s protagonist Paul Atreides, heir to a noble family tasked with ruling an inhospitable world. There’s a lot happening in the 3:27 minute trailer and we also meet other prominent cast members including Jason Mamoa, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, and Javier Bardem.

The Chair
We previously got a tiny glimpse of Netflix’s upcoming Sandra Oh dramedy but now we have a full-fledged trailer that reveals more of the story. Oh plays Dr. Ji-Yoon Kim, the first female chair of the English department at Pembroke University. Not only do we see her navigating gender stereotypes but we also get a peek inside her complicated love life where we find her secretly pining for a fellow professor.

The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf
No, this isn’t the highly anticipated season 2 of The Witcher but an animated film based on another monster hunter that came before the famous Geralt. The new movie trailer shows us Vesemir — Geralt’s mentor and a cocky young witcher who slays monsters for a pretty penny. But when a strange new monster begins terrorizing a politically fraught kingdom, Vesemir is forced to confront the demons of his past.
Clickbait
This is not so much a trailer but a quick teaser for Netflix’s upcoming eight-part thriller series starring Adrian Grenier as Nick Brewer, a loving father, husband, and brother, who one day suddenly and mysteriously disappears. Moments into the clip we see a badly beaten Nick holding a card that says “I abuse women. At 5 million views, I die.” Is this a threat or confession? We’ll know when the show debuts on August 25.
Brand New Cherry Flavor
Things are looking dark and grim in this trailer for Netflix’s limited horror series. Set in the early 90s, the eight-part TV show will feature hour-long episodes that tell the story of a young filmmaker who embarks on a journey of supernatural revenge and goes down a hallucinatory rabbit hole of sex, magic, and, kittens.
Nine Perfect Strangers
The premise is set for a 10-day retreat where people come to heal. Nine guests enter a wellness retreat run by Nicole Kidman. Things seem pretty ordinary with people participating in self-help exercises and pondering their problems until we see Kidman talk about initiating a mysterious protocol. “They are not ready,” says a staff member of the retreat, followed by folks hallucinating, feeling unlike themselves, and behaving downright crazy. The Hulu miniseries boasts a stellar cast apart from Kidman, including Mellissa McCarthy, Luke Evans, Tiffany Boone, Regina Hall, Michael Shannon, and others.
Malignant
From James Wan, the director of Saw, The Conjuring, and Insidious, comes this HBO Max horror flick with Annabelle Wallis in the lead. She not only sees grisly murders before they happen, but she’s also literally transported to the crime scene. Are her waking dreams in fact terrifying realities? You’ll have to wait till September 10 to find out.
