DS3 Prequel Mod Dark Souls Archtrones Demo to Arrive This September

A demo for the upcoming Dark Souls 3 prequel mod, Dark Souls Archtrones, will be arriving this September.

The news was announced through a short demo teaser on the project’s Twitter account yesterday. You’ll find this tweet below. An exact release date wasn’t provided, and the video only mentions “September 2023”. More news about the demo will likely be shared soon.

For those unfamiliar with this exciting upcoming Dark Souls 3 prequel mod – Dark Souls Archtrones will be a DLC-sized mod featuring mechanics from the original Demon’s Souls. According to the development team, it will offer overhauled 3D models, new animations, improved lighting as well the world layout of Demon’s Souls, soul form, world tendency, and more.

Over the past year, the fan mod has received several gameplay videos alongside screenshots showing off the mod’s environments and combat.

“Archthrones is an overhaul mod for Dark Souls 3 on a scale never seen before”, the team describes the mod. “It has been in development for almost 2 years now, but there is still much more for us to do.”

“An alternate story unfolds across five unique worlds, each accessed via the Nexus of Embers. Encounters with bosses and allies await in this hostile, but beautifully reimagined version of Lothric and other Dark Souls locales.”

We’ll update you as soon as more information about the mod and its demo become available. For now, stay tuned.

Dark Souls 3 is available globally now for PC and consoles. The game was released in 2016 and has received two official expansions. Of course, this upcoming prequel mod will only be made available for the PC version. Here’s what we wrote about FromSoftware’s Dark Souls installment in our launch review:

My journey through Lothric to meet with the Lords of Cinder took me through unforgettable vistas and resulted in more than a few sleepless nights where all I could think about was pushing through another corridor, seeking out another bonfire. It’s an experience that the established Souls fans already know they can’t miss, while for those curious about Dark Souls, eager to discover what all the hype is about, this is the perfect starting point.
It might not be everyone’s favorite Souls game, but it just might be mine and I can guarantee that Dark Souls III will dominate more than a few Game of the Year lists in 2016.
