Dry hair ‘will age you significantly’ – how to reverse it
Nicky Lazou is a global hairstylist and founder of Lazou Hair. She discussed some of the most important things to bear in mind when trying to make your hair look younger.
The most important thing is moisture, she says. Nicky explained: “Hydration is everything when it comes to helping your hair look younger. Regardless of your cut or colour, hair that is dry and damaged will age you significantly. This is even more true if you often bleach your hair to go lighter in an attempt to cover greys!”
How to make your hair look younger
Use a hair mask
“I can’t explain enough how important a hair mask is for hydrating your hair,” the hairstylist said. “There are so many benefits to using a hair mask including strengthening your hair and minimising any damage for a better colouring experience. I have formulated a hair mask, The Nutrition Hair Mask from Lazou.
“I bleached my own hair twice during the testing process to ensure it provided the level of hydration and nutrition our hair needs. I recommend using a hair mask once a week and for at least two weeks prior to a colour appointment with your hairdresser. Your hair then becomes the perfect canvas for any colour.”

How you colour your hair is also an important element of keeping it healthy and looking younger. Certain mistakes could damage your hair quite badly, and so it’s important to be aware of them.
Nicky said: “If you can’t go to the hairdresser for root touch-ups, try to be consistent with at-home colouring using the same colour from the same brand. If you mix and match different at-home treatments you may find it is quite damaging to your hair and can add to ageing.”
Protect your hair from heat
Nicky went on: “Similarly, it’s important you’re consistent with heat protection when styling. You may find your hair is more prone to damage from heat styling as you age, so using a heat protection spray acts as an effective barrier to minimise damage and keep your hair hydrated.”
Nicky also discussed a major hair mistake that she claims can really age you. Attempting to cover grey hairs the wrong way is “one of the biggest mistakes” she sees in her career, she told Express.co.uk.
The stylist was asked what colours women should avoid to not look older. Nicky said: “Going too light to cover grey hair is one of the biggest mistakes I see.
“Unless your hair is naturally light or blonde, highlighting too much or completely changing the colour of your hair to go significantly lighter can age you, especially if it clashes with your skin tone.”
