Drunken nerds, unite: A boozy, Lego-inspired pop-up is headed for Denver

The latest boozy pop-up headed for the Mile High City is inspired by the little plastic bricks that for decades have cluttered childhood toy boxes.

Brick Bar, billed as a Lego-inspired bar built from more than 1 million miniature plastic blocks, will be transported and “assembled into the ultimate fun fest” for its April 1-2 run at The Watering Bowl, 5411 Leetsdale Drive in Denver. (The venue is one of the metro area’s few explicitly dog-friendly bars and already features games such as miniature golf.)

In the long line of “immersive” stunts in recent years, boozy pop-ups are the surgical strikers. They duck in and out of cities, sometimes with little notice and few details until the day-of, promoting their pop culture-sourced nostalgia and playfulness. Generally, they’re feeling out interest before committing to a location.

This one is a bit more solid, with a firm location and transparent description of the offerings. This one features sculptures made completely from bricks, “as well as an abundance of blocks for people to shape into their own creations” (they don’t mention Legos after the initial tip-of-the-cap). There will also be local DJs spinning tunes all day to keep the vibes and creative juices flowing, organizers said in a press statement.

The 90-minute sessions will involve building competitions complete with prizes, “a brick-made wishing well” and a table built with over 22,000 bricks to host table-tennis relays. Oh — and drinking and selfies. That’s the main draw, right?

Children under 5 and under are free of charge before 6 p.m., but it’s 21-and-up after that. Tickets — which are notably nonrefundable — are $22 and available at bit.ly/3HPksgN.
