The handy advice is to coat your wing mirror in soap and then gently wipe it with a rag, leaving a thing film of water-repellent soap on the glass.

Then, when water is splashed onto the mirror, it slides right off it without leaving droplets collected on its surface.

Originally found on a TikTok video, the advice was tested on camera by Instagram user Michael Khieu.

He posted his clip of his test with the caption “Fact Or Fiction?”.

In the video, he tested the hack on one of his own cars, a Ford Mustang, to determine whether or not it works.

He used the sprinkler attachment on a hose to simulate rainfall, spraying his wing mirror with droplets.

He then wiped it down with soap, followed by a rag.

Finally, he soaked it with water from a plastic bottle, which drained off with not a drop left on the mirror.

Khieu showed his amazement that the hack worked by plastering ninja emojis all around the video.

Commenters were amazed by the clever tip.

One wrote: “That’s science”

Another simply said “boom” with ‘mind blown’ emoji.

Trying to explain the hack, one commenter said: “It’s because of the oil in the soap.”

This is the case, in theory at least, because water oil does not dissolve in water and so oil-coated surfaces are water-repellent.

However, another commenter urged caution, warning that the oil layer could excessively reflect light from other cars behind.
