Drivers only just realising little-known feature that may make car last longer
DRIVERS have only just realised a little-known feature they must check on to make their car last longer.
An expert has revealed one vital motor part that should be changed regularly – and it’s not what you might expect.
In a video shared to TikTok, Scotty Kilmer encouraged everyone to maintain three vehicle components to get their car over 200,000 miles.
The mechanic of over 55 years said: “Regardless of what the manufacturers say, change your automatic transmission fluid.
“It doesn’t need to be done so often, maybe every 40,000 miles, but dirt ruins transmissions too.”
Other tips included changing the engine oil regularly.
Scotty added: “Dirty oil destroys an engine, oil changes cost $30, engines cost $3,000.
“Also, have your battery checked every once and a while because they go bad.
“Modern cars are all computer driven, if the electricity isn’t strong enough, it strains them and they can be ruined.”
He suggested if you maintain these three simple features, your car will go strong for 240,000 miles.
This comes as drivers are only just realising another feature that could keep them safe on the road.
A car expert shared a trick that could come in handy for drivers after buying a new vehicle.
TikTok user @dashishuoche took to social media to show that if you press and hold the door lock button for ten seconds, you can activate an automatic lock function.
Plus, motorists have been left stunned after realising that they have a nifty device hidden in their cars – and it’s very easy to use.
While you might think you know your car like the back of your hand, you could be missing out on some essential extras.
Meanwhile, another mechanic has revealed the mistake drivers always make with their air conditioning that leaves them hotter and wastes fuel.
They explained that, while it seems “natural”, turning the air con on as soon as you get into the car will actually make things worse.
