Driver trapped for hours and a dozen passengers injured in double train crash

A double train crash in Salisbury led to a driver being trapped and around a dozen passengers injured.

Two trains collided this evening (October 31) at around 7pm in Fisherton Tunnel.

The exact number of passengers injured in the crash is unknown, but there have been no deaths.

But at least a dozen have been left injured from the incident.

The driver was trapped for some time but ambulance staff were able to free him and he has been taken to hospital.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “We are currently responding to an incident at Fisherton Tunnel, Salisbury. Officers were called at 6.46pm this evening following reports a train derailed.

“We are on scene alongside paramedics and the fire brigade.”

A spokesperson later added: “Officers are continuing to respond to the incident at Fisherton Tunnel.

“A number of people have been injured, but thankfully no one has died.”

Pictures from the scene show paramedics and at least three ambulances at the scene.

The cause of the crash is yet to be confirmed, but rail accident investigators have arrived and are conducting a preliminary examination.
