‘Dreadful!’ Royal Mail warns customers of delays today – more than 50 postcodes affected
The festive period is always busy for Royal Mail. However, the pandemic is making the company’s job even more difficult as it struggles with staff shortages and other Covid-related issues.
Today, Royal Mail has warned Britons of more delays throughout the country.
The company explained it operates an air, rail, and road network to move letters and parcels between its distribution hubs, mail processing centres, and delivery offices around the UK.
Although its air, rail, and road networks have been operating to schedule over the last 24 hours, there were issues yesterday, January 7, with some of the company’s mail centres.
The four centres affected are listed below.

“Nottingham Mail Centre: Some mail posted in other parts of the UK yesterday, due for delivery today to addresses in the DE and NG postcode areas.

Deliveries are dealt with slightly differently on weekends.
Royal Mail explained: “Weekend delivery and collection services are expected to take place on Saturday 8 January 2022.
“There are no deliveries or collections on Sunday 9 January 2022 (except COVID-19 test kits from Priority Postboxes).
“Most of our Customer Service Points are open both Saturday and Sunday for you to collect urgent items for which we’ve left a ‘Something for you’ card – please visit royalmail.com/services-near-you for their opening times.”
Britons have taken to social media again today to complain about the poor postal service in their area.
User Liz Harwood said: “Postal deliveries have been dreadful in SE24 for some time. @RoyalMail really need to sort this out. It is a business providing an essential service and postage charges are expensive. How many hospital appointments etc have been missed due to postal delays?”
Simon Lewis wrote: “The list that @RoyalMail publish never includes my post code as one which experiences long delays in delivery. Yet even the posties have said the deliveries are not taking place. The lack of transparency by RM is disgraceful. Mail posted on 15th December has still not arrived.”
Dr Donald-MacCallum commented: “@RoyalMail looks like another call of at least an hour to get through because RM continue to NOT deliver! Months of severe parcel delays & no regular mail for weeks. What’s going on?”
Royal Mail has listed 55 postcodes that are affected by the delays today.
