Dragons end nightmare week with fairytale finish
By
Only three days after their coach was sacked, the Dragons have clinched a thrilling last-second victory over the Roosters after a miraculous last-ditch play.
After being held scoreless in the opening 40 minutes, the Roosters mounted a furious second-half comeback that looked all but home before Mathew Feagai scored at the death to seal the 24-22 win after Zac Lomax successfully converted the try.
With under a minute left to play, the Dragons held possession but looked to be stalled by the Roosters defence. That was until their forwards launched into a stunning do-or-die play kickstarted by captain Ben Hunt.

Acting in desperation, Hunt kicked the ball high to a contest on the 10m mark.
The ball was then fumbled and batted towards the middle where it fell into the hands of Tyrell Sloan who with a stunning cross-field kick, positioned the ball for Mathew Feagai to scoop up and score.
The try levelled the scores with three seconds left on the clock, but with Feagai heading for the posts before grounding the ball, recalled centre Zac Lomax was in the perfect position to slot the match-winning field goal.
“Oh my goodness, who writes this script? Rugby league — you beautiful thing,” Andrew Voss said in commentary for Fox League.
“Look at the Dragons fans now, their prayers have been answered … That is quite dazzling.”
Earlier, the Dragons went into half time 12-0 down after a long-range try to Moses Suli and successful dummy to Ben Hunt.
In the 24th minute, Roosters firebrand Victor Radley was placed on report for what appeared to be a “headbutt” on Blake Lawrie in the middle of a heated scuffle between players from both teams.

The Roosters responded in the second half with two tries in the opening 13 minutes.
The first saw debutant Nathan Brown put James Tedesco through a hole with a short ball before a great ball to Luke Keary saw the Roosters cut the Dragons’ lead to just two points.
Keary soon went again with a brilliant solo effort, deceiving Talatau Amone to snag his second try.

The Dragons soon hit back through Jaydn Su’A, but as Tedesco bagged his second of the night, it looked as if the Roosters would get out of jail.
With the win, the Dragons ended a six-game loosing streak and gave caretaker coach Ryan Carr the dream start to his tenure.
Both sides suffered damage in the clash with Brandon Smith suffering a thumb complaint and Blake Lawrie fracturing his hand.
