Dragons’ Den’s Drew Cockton dies aged 36 leaving family ‘heartbroken’

Drew Cockton died at “peacefully at home” on Saturday aged just 36. The businessman gained fame after securing a £50k investment for his scented candle business, Owen Drew, when he appeared on Dragons’ Den last year.

Drew’s mother confirmed the sad news on Sunday.

She shared on Facebook: “We are truly, utterly heartbroken to have to tell you that our beloved Drew Peter George Cockton (my gorgeous boy) died peacefully at home yesterday.

Former Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Gary Millar, tweeted: “Please light a candle in the memory of the wonderful Drew Cockton who has sadly passed. My condolences to his family and to his many friends. RIP Drew.”

Drew’s friend, John Roberts, echoed: “Deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Drew Cockton – Always a supportive friend – the world shines a little less brighter today! Rest in Peace my friend!”

And pal Luke penned: “Totally and utterly shocked to hear this news, Drew was a wonderful, thoughtful person and it’s surreal to think I spoke to him on Friday for the last time.

“Thank you for all you did for me and our community. Much love to his family and friends.”

When Drew appeared on Dragons’ Den, his vegan fragrance brand impressed entrepreneur Touker Suleyman after he explained he had started his business at his “kitchen table” and had gone on to achieve a £750k cumulative turnover.

During his pitch to the Dragons, Drew also explained why wellness was so important to him as he opened up about his previous struggles with mental health.

“I had a breakdown and then I was diagnosed with bipolar.”

In the year after securing the investment from Touker, Drew founded the North West LGBTQ+ Business Awards.

The second annual event took place on Friday, just one day before Drew’s death.
