Dozens of rats trapped in bin try to escape on East London estate

A video showing dozens of rodents thrashing around in a communal bin in Tower Hamlets has been shared on social media. The clip allegedly taken at a Tower Hamlets estate, shows the vermin crawling feverishly inside the bin as they appear to be trapped or drawn to something inside.

In the 14-second visual posted on TikTok, users commented calling it their “worst nightmare” while others were “terrified” and speculated on how the rats had found themselves in the large communal bin. The video which was taken from a height showed the rats clamouring on top of each other while in the container which is located in an outside open space.

According to commenters the footage was taken at Norton House off Bigland Street and Cannon Street Road and the metal fencing in the video does match that which surrounds the block of flats.

The comments under the post drew differing reactions to the languishing pests seemingly imprisoned in the steel drum. Some users felt sympathy towards the pests while they struggled on top of each other.

While others discussed ways to exterminate the disease carriers which are known to cause extreme damage to infrastructure. One user Fiona Walker wrote: “I’m sorry, but I would have to help them get out.”

While another user Good_Karma_0101 commented: “How’d they get in there? That’s so cruel, they’re trying to escape”, followed by a shocked emoji.” But other TikTok uses came in with solutions on how to deal with the infestation.

One user Hannah Sarah wrote: “put the lid on quick!” Echoed by another rummers13 who wrote: “Fill with water.”

Whereas other TikTok users chose to leave comments where they likened the “terrifying” video to parts of their everyday lives in London. A user JB wrote: “Looks like our office environment.” While another put it simply and commented: “London.”
