Donny Osmond delights fans as he poses with brothers in rare reunion

Donny Osmond, who is now 65, joined a gathering in honour of his brother Merrill as he embarks on a church mission.

The former teen idol shared a snap of himself with other male family members to celebrate the occasion and posted it for his 210,000 devotees on Twitter.

“My brother, Merrill and his wife Mary, are going to serve a mission for our church [The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints],” he wrote alongside the snap.

“[My wife] Debbie and I went to their farewell in St. George, Utah over the weekend and it was a wonderful experience to see some of my brothers again,” the star exclaimed.

Debbie has been married to Donny for almost 45 years, having first met when she was a teenage cheerleader in school.

In an unusual twist, Debbie was originally dating one of his brothers, Jay, before they got together, but they quickly became an item and have remained together ever since.

Debbie wasn’t present in the photo he posted, but fans were nevertheless delighted to see a snapshot of the boys together.

Donny wrote beneath the photo: “From top left to bottom right, Tom, Merrill, Me, Jimmy, Alan, Wayne.

“If you happen to be in Washington DC anytime during the next year, I’m sure Merrill and Mary would love a visit at the Washington DC temple visitor’s center!”

Fans were quick to share their disappointment that two members of the once world-famous family seemed to be missing – brothers Jay and Virl.

Donny’s sister Marie, who hosted a variety show with him on US channel ABC back in the 1970s, was also absent from the snap.

However, the pair are believed to be very close, and she was left “screaming” after he unexpectedly surprised her at one of her pop shows last autumn.

He told the Today show that although she is currently “touring like crazy” and has an action-packed schedule for a woman in her 60s, he still loves to spend time with her when he can – and this event was no exception.

“It was such a great moment. I was walking down right in the middle of the aisle, spotlights were hitting her, she couldn’t see me until I was about five feet away and she just started screaming,” he revealed excitedly.

Meanwhile, for those curious about Donny’s religious beliefs, he has devoted a section of his website to it.

The devout Mormon, like his brother, belongs to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and shuns alcohol and coffee.

He says he became a serious follower of the religion following a traumatic accident when he was 17, which caused him to “flatline” and “die for just under five minutes”.
