Eventually, the unfiltered online sharing led to the January 6 Capitol Riot. According to The House Committee report, he repeatedly used Twitter to call people to Washington, D.C.
The report noted a Donald Trump tweet that said, “Be there, will be wild!” In response, his supporters stormed the Capitol building.
Also, the House Committee said Donald Trump initially refused to ask his supporters to leave via Twitter.
Instead, he criticized Vice President Mike Pence for refusing to help overturn the election. As a result, the mob became more enraged.
The next day, Twitter permanently banned Donald Trump, while Facebook gave him a limited ban.
Meta said it would review his ban after two years, starting January 7, 2023. However, Trump sent a formal petition to unblock his account earlier.
Contrary to popular belief, he did not threaten to sue Facebook’s parent firm. Instead, his petition emphasized the importance of free speech.
It also requested Meta for a “meeting to discuss President Trump’s prompt reinstatement to the platform.
A Meta spokesperson declined to comment regarding Donald Trump’s petition. The company “will announce a decision in the coming weeks in line with the process we laid out.”
