The crown doesn’t quite fit.
Dominic West responded to fans of “The Crown” who said that he was too handsome to play Prince Charles in the Netflix show’s fifth season.
Appearing on Tuesday’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” alongside his costar, Elizabeth Debicki, the 53-year-old actor said he has been on the receiving end of worse critiques.
“They’ve been saying that you’re too handsome to play Prince Charles and I think that’s true,” Kimmel joked to “The Affair” star.
“Well thank you very much. I’ve had worse criticisms,” responded West.
Kimmel added that West is “more Prince Charming than Charles.”
The second to last season features West and Debicki as Charles and Diana going through their messy divorce after the now-King admitted to having an affair with Camilla Parker Bowles in 1994.
According to West, the era the British media has dubbed the “War of the Waleses,” was one the lowest points in the prince’s life.
“Does that make you at all nervous seeing as he could have you beheaded if he wants to, he’s the king,” joked Kimmel.
“Right, yeah, well, no he can’t,” the “Chicago” actor said.
“I mean, they’ve sort of tried. They’re having a go. This was his sort of nadir of his whole life. You see pictures of him then and video and stuff and he’s very, very sad and that’s quite a responsibility taking that on.”
The Post reached out to West for comment.
This most recent season of the Netflix drama has been the subject of criticism from several key British figures such as former British Prime Minister John Major and Dame Judi Dench who called the show “cruelly unjust” and “hurtful.”
Major described the show as a “barrel-load of nonsense” after the show aired a fictional scene of Major and the Prince in a meeting where Charles attempts to lobby for his mother’s abdication.
