Domingo itching to make amends for Downs’ dropped points

It is clear that Mamelodi Sundowns players are so used to collecting full points in league games that it bothers them if they drop any. And this is why Haashim Domingo is now itching to get going again so they can make amends for dropping points at Cape Town City last weekend.

Sundowns were held to a goalless draw by the Citizens in a DStv Premiership match and are now focused on ensuring the same does not happen when they host cross town rivals SuperSport United on Wednesday.

The draw at City didn’t harm Sundowns’ chances of winning their fifth league title in a row with their closest chasers Stellenbosch FC also playing to a draw last weekend.

Masandawana are still five points clear at the top of the standings and have a game in hand.

“I just have to continue from where I left off,” says Domingo who was named Man-of-the-Match in the City draw. “I can build on that and it will give me  confidence going into the next game. But I think it is important that we get the result in this one (against SuperSport).

“It was difficult and we could not get the result against Cape Town City but in this one we need to go all out and get the three points.”

Domingo says they have analysed Matsatsantsa and know what kind of game to expect from their neighbours. He said they will rely on Sipho Mbule and Teboho Mokoena for creativity in the middle while Thamsanqa Gabuza and Bradley Grobler will be looking for long balls into the Sundowns box.

“We expect a direct performance from them. They will use long balls and feed off the second balls. We need to stay very tight and pick up the second ball first and establish play from there.”

Matsatsantsa are the most desperates for points of the two Tshwane sides having amassed 18 points in 11 games and trailing Sundowns by eight.

They will also be looking to recover after an unexpected defeat to Premiership strugglers Marumo Gallants last weekend.
