Star of 9 to 5 The Musical Erin Clare received a video message from Dolly Parton ahead of the stage show going live in Sydney.
Actor Erin Clare says a special message from Dolly Parton has provided extra motivation ahead of 9 to 5 The Musical hitting the stage in Sydney and Brisbane.
Clare stars alongside Marina Prior, Eddie Perfect, Casey Donovan and Caroline O’Connor in the feminist comedy, which has been a smash on London’s West End.
Playing the role of Doralee Rhodes made famous by Parton, Clare told this week’s Stellar magazine the all-Australian cast received a video message from Dolly.
“I have a voice clip of her saying my name, which lives rent-free in my head at all times,” Clare told Stellar, where she appears for a fashion shoot in modern office attire with a twist.
The Sydney actor says the relevance of the 9 to 5 story is stronger now than ever. She cites the issue of “rampant sexism in the workplace” and its story about three fed-up office workers who finally give their male boss what for.
“It’s all about female empowerment and rising against misogyny,” she said.
9 to 5 The Musical opens in Sydney on February 16 before moving to Brisbane’s Lyric Theatre in May. A Melbourne season is also on the cards.
